Stimulus Package for those Normally not filling a return

This note is for US citizens only. You have been made aware if you watch TV about the Presidents Stimulus Package, and to receive a benefit you must file a tax return. Many of us do not have to file returns because our income is lower and we don't have to file.
For those of you on Disability, social security and the like, or just low enough income you have no had to file, you can still file for the stimulus package if you have any income of at least $3000. Most people living only on their social security do not have to file as an example.
So, you do need to file something if you wish to benefit. However, for those of you in this situation the benefit is only 1/2 as much, $300 per adult and if you support a child, $300 for the child.
What you do is acquire a 1040A form, put your name and address on it, your social security number and the number of people filing. Then skip down to line 14a, and place in there your social secuirty, railroad income, disability and the like. If you aren't on those but otherwise have income less than is required to file a return, enter it on line 7.
Then on top of the return, write Stimulus Package, and sign the back of the return. If you wish deposit to your bank account, include that information.
I just found out about this on the news this weekend and did this and took care of it Monday. It's is not too late. You can do it online supposedly, at www.irs.gov, but my friend in this situation was not able to get it to work, so he just printed out the form and filled in manually and mailed it in. Some page links weren't apparently working right.
Take care, Candace
