Edward Bernays: the Creation of Constantly Moving Happiness Machines.

Ron: Ever wonder just how the hidden persuaders got started in the US? I have. Here is a series of short videos about Edward Bernays and how he took his uncle Sigmund Freud’s ideas on the so-called human unconscious together with Freud’s flawed theory that humans are irrational creatures driven by basic animal instincts, and turned those ideas into the propaganda machine that set USans on the downhill psycho-social path to where they are today.

In effect Bernays used his knowledge of the emotional insecurity of people in the industrial age to manipulate USans into becoming consumerist zombies. In the process he virtually created the public relations (PR) industry. He decided on that name (PR) to avoid the negative connotations associated with the word “propaganda” which was what he did, and the PR industry has done ever since. Why the change of name?  Because Bernays was employed in 1917 to help president Woodrow Wilson (mis)represent US war aims  and attended the entire Paris Peace Conference with the US delegation (presumably in company with the Warburg bankers) and so he knew that the word for what he did – “ propaganda’ -- had acquired a bad name during WWI.

Bernays saw the result of his war work – Woodrow Wilson was made to seem a hero to the European masses by mass persuasion techniques – and realised that mass persuasion techniques could also be used in peace time. So he used them back in the US after WWI. In the 1920s he used pretty girls, actresses etc to publicly break the taboo on women smoking in the US. A legacy of that, apart from the increasing damaging health effects, was the insertion of women smokers into endless movie scenes.

In the 1920s and again in the mid-late 1930s and beyond, Bernays and the PR industry he spawned, spewing forth endless reams of clever propaganda designed to dumb down people so that they allowed their emotions to rule their reason and bought things they did not need. Later, after WWII, Bernays worked for the CIA.

Metaphorically, Bernays wrote the rule book for the world portrayed in Vance Packard’s “Hidden Persuaders” books of the 1960s and it just got worse from there. Bernays’ technique was to craft campaigns to create emotional attachments in the public mass mind. He used all available media to achieve this. He was particularly effective in insinuating messages into the print media and films. In fact he initiated the practice of indirect “product placement” in film scenes. But of course today his successors in the CIA and the other US Alphabet Agencies have developed his art beyond recognition. In any event the PR cum advertising industries are so pervasive today that they constitute audio, visual and noise pollution amounting to harassment of anyone who wants to live a real human existence in society.

Bernays, like the bankers, corporatists and elitists he served, had a very low opinion of human nature and human potential. He assumed people were irrational and driven by animal instincts. Once you make that assumption it is easy to justify controlling, manipulating and even destroying people ON MASSE. In effect that is what Bernays and his paymasters did. These videos also give a sense of how apparently rational and reasonable persons like, for example, Walter Lipman, became supporters of the elitists who we now know as the Illuminati. On the face of it, it wasn’t just that “too many good men did nothing” rather, it seems that many, many clever men put their shoulder to the wheel to grind the general populations of the US and the world into dust.

These videos are worth a look, especially Parts 2 and 3. There are six videos of up to 10 minutes each. Taken together they give a glimpse of how business advertising and the fad for extending PR techniques into all areas of current society has played into the hands of the Illuminati without most people even realising what was happening. Hopefully though, they just tell us what we already know about PR, advertising and consumerism. See

Also a  brief potted outline of Bernays work  is at:
In this video the BBC says that Bernays' greatest coup was breaking the taboo on women smoking by persuading them that cigarettes were a symbol of independence and freedom. But Bernays was convinced that this was more than just a way of selling consumer goods. It was a new political idea of how to control the masses. By satisfying the inner irrational desires that his uncle had identified, people could be made happy and thus docile. It was the start of the all-consuming self which has come to dominate today's world. The next step was to convince women that to be independent and "free" they needed to work full time and pay taxes just like men. This coup was achieved by Bernays' successors in the second half of the 20th Century. How the hidden persuaders must laugh when they see women slaving at the economic coalface AND trying to raise their children.

Please don’t think that this  “ancient history” is a bit academic and has nothing to tell us today. In order to help our families, friends and world to transmute the negative energies built up over centuries we need to understand their causes and origins. I think that the 20th Century was meant to be the century in which humankind was to face and overcome *fear of freedom* but we did not do it. We did not use our reason to understand and overcome our sense of personal insecurity – our “fear of freedom”- which was the core weakness attacked by the Tavistock Institute in the UK (for which Bernays worked) and by Bernays and the PR industry in the US. Finally governments all around the world adopted these techniques in their attempts to manipulate and control humankind everywhere.

Edward Bernays was one of many who deliberately led us astray. We need to understand such historical realities in order to know why we are where we are today. Although we may not personally need this information we will need to understand it for the sake of others still mired in the ignorance and confusion created by Bernays and other manipulators of our world. Not only will it help us to explain to others where our society took the wrong path but it will also help us to steer our social course into a glorious future. Monjoronson and our other Celestial and GF helpers repeatedly tell us we are responsible, and must set the direction for social and spiritual upliftment of our world. That means we need to exercise some mental muscle in the process. Outsiders cannot do it for us and clearly in the past those who were happy to lead us, lead us astray. So now we need to do it ourselves. We are the ones we have been waiting for. But we need to KNOW the way to go in order to avoid further failure.

The secret seems to be that in all spontaneous activity the individual embraces the world. The human self is only as strong as it is active. In the words of Erich Fromm:

‘There is no genuine strength in possession as such, neither of material property nor of mental qualities like emotions or thoughts… Ours is only that to which we are genuinely related by our creative activity, be it a person or an inanimate object… the inability to act spontaneously, to express what one genuinely feels and thinks, and the resulting necessity to present a pseudo self to others and oneself, are the root of the feeling of inferiority and weakness.

… what matters is the activity as such, the process and not the result. In our culture the emphasis is just the reverse… we feel that we can acquire everything material or immaterial by buying it, and thus things become ours independently of any creative effort of our own in relation to them.

… If the individual realizes his self by spontaneous activity and thus relates himself to the world, he ceases to be an isolated atom; he and the world become part of one structuralized whole; he has his rightful place, and thereby his doubt concerning himself and the meaning of life disappears… when he can live neither compulsively nor automatically but spontaneously, the doubt disappears. [Fear of Freedom Routledge & Keegan Paul Ltd, London pp. 225-226].

Arguably our human nature and characteristics are a cultural product, the consensual outcome of mass consciousness. We are the primary creational achievement of a massive continuous effort the record of which we call our history. What’s more, since we are co-creators of that history and our current condition we can change both. All that is required is that we understand who we are and what has happened to us and decide that it shall be otherwise. So let’s understand the processes whereby we got here, and change them.
