Behind the pandemonium over a pandemic of a variation of the common cold sometimes known as ‘the sniffles', the real threat to Europe has been downgraded. Scenes of combat typical of great conflicts between nations are daily occurring at Evros between Greeks, migrants and Turks. Greek border troops bathe in toxic fumes, in the Battle of Evros. While the Turkish police and Turkish armed migrants bomb the Greek defenders with tear gas.
The Islamist president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, bought the border war by spreading the news in the Turkish Corona Virus News last Wednesday, closing gates to Europe, and Merkel surrendered.
The reason, says the Turkish president is that, in his opinion, there is a risk of the spread of the coronavirus in the Turkish sultanate. Thousands of migrants still remain at the border and Turkish cops continue to support the migrant's efforts to break through the Greek fences, not least by bombing their defenders tear gas.
Footage taken from the Greek side of the border and provided by the Greek media company Proto Thema appears to show Greek personnel and the army in scenes reminiscent of the notorious gas attacks on the trenches of World War I after such a bombardment.
The Greeks themselves use tear gas to ward off illegal immigrants when they threw stones and petrol bombs at them, or when they tried to tear down the border facilities or otherwise dismantle them.
However, recent videos show that a number of migrants on the fences have now apparently been provided with gas masks so that they can continue their attacks on the border regardless.
Turkish officials have previously claimed that at least 100,000 migrants have been sent to Greece. The Greek government denies this, however, saying that it has successfully held back tens of thousands and estimates the number of those who made it across the land border into the hundreds.
Their role in defending the Evros has not been facilitated by the fact that the European Union has refused to provide funds for robust border fences that the bloc denounced as ‘senseless'.
