Americans Are in Desperate Need of a Lesson on the History of Slavery
By William Sullivan with comments by Ron

Irrespective of how you feel about the Constitution's vision for the future of slavery, one cannot deny that the dominoes fell in such a way as to destroy the institution forever.

Ron: Not really. Chattel slavery in the US was superceded by bankster propaganda about "Capitalism" which became the new method for 'slave plantation' control. At best the Constitution may have inhibited the continuance of chattel slavery BUT it did nothing to destroy its replacement, namely free range serfdom, favoured by the banksters and corporatists who understood that workers who THINK they are free agents are more productive and increase the profits of their employers while largely 'policing themselves' and hence requiring much less coercive effort by the owners.

Democrat hopeful Pete Buttigieg recently advocated removing Thomas Jefferson's memory from the public square and ending the practice of naming public events in his honor. The legacy of Jefferson, he said, is "problematic."  "There's a lot to admire in his thinking and his philosophy," he said, "but then again if you plunge into his writings, especially his notes on the state of Virginia, you know that he knew slavery was wrong."

It's a stunning display of his ignorance, certainly.  But interestingly, Buttigieg has unknowingly pinpointed precisely why Thomas Jefferson should be eternally revered by our society, which believes that enslaving other human beings is wrong. [Ron: All the while accepting and celebrating their own slavery because it is called democratic 'Liberty'.].

That is, that Jefferson knew that it was wrong at the time.

Thomas Sowell explains, brilliantly as ever:

Of all the tragic facts about the history of slavery, the most astonishing to an American today is that, although slavery was a worldwide institution for thousands of years, nowhere in the world was slavery a controversial issue prior to the 18th century[.] ...

Everyone hated the idea of being a slave but few had any qualms about enslaving others.  Slavery was just not an issue, not even among intellectuals, much less among political leaders, until the 18th century - and only then in Western civilization.

Among those who turned against slavery in the 18th century were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and other American leaders.  You could research all of 18th century Africa or Asia or the Middle East without finding any comparable rejection of slavery there.

In other words, these prominent men having turned against an institution that had been normal throughout human history was an expression of a revolutionary idea.  To imagine that the idea that slavery is morally wrong would be embraced by everyone overnight, in such a world, is nothing short of childish fantasy.

The Founders knew that such change would require not only time, but a practical argument against the institution as well.  Moreover, it would require proof that slavery is harmful.

Scotsman Adam Smith, another [Ron: Talmudic bankster influenced, pre-Fabian] revolutionary thinker who deeply influenced our Founders, also rejected slavery.  His was not solely a moral argument, but also an economic one. "I believe," he wrote, "that the work done by free men comes cheaper in the end than the work performed by slaves. Whatever work [the slave] does, beyond what is sufficient to purchase his own maintenance, can be squeezed out of him by violence only, and not by any interest of his own."

[Ron: I disagree with the implication that the capitalist system is an arrangement in which work is performed by free men rather than slaves. The capitalist system is just a more sophisticated form of slavery that exploits the labour of most of humanity as evidenced by inadequate wages in association with the accretion of huge UNEARNED profits by the owners of corporations; and the unlawful imposition of income taxation. The slave masters' control is exercised using growing unemployment and underemployment. Moreover, the situation is worsening. See eg: The Permanent Unemployment & Underemployment Economy -  - Underemployment-Economy.shtml].

We could expound upon what was then just a theory with some evidence supporting it, but with the luxury of hindsight, we don't have any need.  Time fleshed it out, fully, to be a law of economics.

[Ron: "a law of economics"? This is gobbledygook. Bankster propaganda speak.].

As the Industrial Revolution progressed, the industrial Northern states in America found this law immutable.

[Ron: Actually what happened was that the Industrial Revolution required workers to be motivated enough to handle the increasing complexity of industrialisation. Workers had to be manipulated into thinking they were free agents and hence willing to learn to operate the machinery and paperwork effectively.].

Moreover, so did the planters in the agrarian Southern states, which relied much more heavily on slave labor and were more resistant to ending the practice.

As Alexis de Toqueville observes in Democracy in America (1836), even before America's founding, "the planters were struck by the extraordinary fact that the provinces comparatively destitute of slaves increased in population, in wealth, and in prosperity more rapidly than those who contained many of them."

The Founders, even those in the Southern colonies, had come to understand that slavery was both a moral and economic evil that was "cruel to the slave" but economically "prejudicial to the master," according to de Tocqueville.

The question became how to eliminate it.  As Thomas Sowell writes:

Deciding that slavery was wrong was much easier than deciding what to do with millions of people from another continent, of another race, and without any historical preparation for living as free citizens in a society like that of the United States, where they were 20% of the total population.

The Founders rejected [Ron: chattel] slavery as a moral evil, certainly.  They also recognized its economical inefficiency, and perhaps most importantly, they scribed the precepts that would end it into our Constitution.

The Constitution etched in stone a prohibition on the importation of slaves from the year 1808 onward.  Why would the Founders commit to such a strict prohibition if they intended for America to be a slaveholding nation in perpetuity?  The document implements few absolute prohibitions on all the new States, so that answer is simple.  They wouldn't.

It also scribed a lingering detriment to slaveholding states with the three-fifths clause, which determined that slaves would equal three-fifths of a person for the purposes of determining representation in Congress.  In short, if slaveholding states were to continue having meaningful representation in Congress, they would be required to gradually remove slavery as a primary means of economic production.  All states assented to this provision through ratification, then considered a "compromise," which eventually doomed the slaveholding states.

At best the Constitution may have inhibited the continuance of chattel slavery BUT it did nothing to destroy its replacement, namely free range serfdom, favoured by the banksters and corporatists who understood that workers who THINK they are free agents are more productive and increase the profits of their employers while largely 'policing themselves' and hence requiring much less coercive effort by the owners.].

As the North industrialized and commerce flourished in freer markets, the need [Ron: of Capitalists and corporatists] for free hands to perform labor for wages increased. The realization that free markets were economically preferable to slavery led to massive influxes of European immigrants to fill the need.  So, as Northern states abolished slavery, former slaveowners in the North sold their slaves to the South, where there was still a value for the slave.

The South could not import slaves after 1808 due to a constitutional ban.  So the same "laws that prevented slaves from the South coming North," according to de Tocqueville, "[drove] those of the North to the South" as the South sought more slave labor.

All of this led to the death spiral of the Antebellum South.  It was the above dynamics, and not the importation of slaves, that caused the population of slaves in the South to "explode" to roughly 33% of the population by 1860.  Largely agrarian, with fewer urban centers of massive population of fully countable people in the Census, the Northern states owned overwhelming representation in Congress, the circumstances of which led the South to [Ron: correctly] believe themselves underrepresented by the United States.

Sowell lays this out, too, in the only way a sensible historian can:

The question [of slavery] was finally answered by a war in which one life was lost for every six people freed.  Maybe that was the only answer.  But don't pretend today that it was an easy answer - or that those who grappled with the dilemma in the 18th century were some special villains, when most leaders and most people in the world at that time saw nothing wrong with slavery.

[Ron: Arguably the American Civil War was instigated by the North in order to ensure that the South did not secede causing the Union to lose import taxation revenues and the North's corporate businesses to lose access to markets in the South. During the war Lincoln only decreed the freedom of the slaves as a means to assist the North to win the War. ].

Perhaps, rather than focusing on the fact that some Founders owned slaves, we would do better to remember their uniqueness in morally opposing slavery in their time and for having presented the economic formula through which it was expunged from American society forever.

[Ron: This is disinformation. The 18th century Agricultural Revolution made feudal serfdom redundant, expelled serfs from the land forcing them to congregate in towns and cities where they constituted an enormous new cheap labour pool. These workers fueled the Industrial Revolution. The “freed” agricultural serfs became “free range” industrial serfs – wage slaves - forced to go to the cities to find work and to assume responsibility for their own and their family’s food, shelter and wellbeing. Whenever the work dries up free range workers must move on at their own expense in the hope of finding work elsewhere. The matrix  propaganda mills have now successfully sold the free-range wage-slave idea to the US and global masses for more than two centuries.

After the American Revolution US society was substantially populated by money meme bankster controlled slaves and that enslavement kept increasing until today the US is totally immersed in a triple enslavement system none of which are acknowledged as such. The first and most obvious enslavement system is constructed using the Capitalist money meme combined with fractional reserve usurious banking and corporatist wage slave, free range serf arrangements. This system makes all employees from managers to factory floor workers and cleaners et al, dependent on wages or salaries for their survival while, unlike the situation with chattel slavery, the Capitalist owners have NO RESPONSIBILITY for provision of workers' food, shelter, health care, transport, education and old age care etc. This system gets much better productivity from most workers because they think they are free and self directed. That was the banksters' reason for 'canning' the chattel slave system.
The rationale for free range wage-slave workers was spelt out in the Hazard circular sent by London banksters to US banksters in July 1862, in the middle of the American Civil War. It said:

`Slavery is likely to be abolished by the war power and chattels slavery destroyed. This I and my European friends are in favor of, for slavery is but the owning of labor and carries with it the care of the laborers, while the European plan, led by England, is that capital [the banksters] shall control labor by controlling wages. This can be done by controlling the money. The great debt (national) that capitalists will see to it is made out of the war, must be used as a means to control the volume of money. To accomplish this the war bonds must be used as a banking basis. We are now waiting for the Secretary of the Treasury to make this recommendation to Congress.'

The US Congress passed the National Bank Act of 1863 giving the banksters power to create money as debt, but not exclusively. In 1872 Horace Greeley said of the Act:

`We have stricken the shackles from four million beings and brought all laborers to a common level, not so much by the elevation of the former slaves as by practically reducing the whole working population, white and black, to a condition of serfdom. While boasting of our noble deeds we are careful to conceal the ugly fact that by our iniquitous money system we have nationalized a system of oppression which, though more refined, is not less cruel than the old system of chattel slavery.'

See eg: The Matrix, the Strawman and WHO You Are -

Not satisfied with this wage slavery system the bankster controllers of the US  have instituted a second and then a third enslavement methodology. The second mechanism was instituted with the creation of the Federal Reserve System in 1913 and the concommitant introduction of income taxation payable to the banksters' private corporation called the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This was a double whammy in that an unlawful tax was imposed on the income received by all wage slaves and every one else who received money from personal exertions. This unlawful tax was steadily increased in subsequent years. Today, because of unemployment due to technological developments many potential wage slaves and new entrants to the wage slave ranks are unable to get paid work at all and so income and other taxes on free range serfs who are earning an income has been increased to enable the owners of the US Inc and all the state government corporations running the US to make welfare payments to people not working and earning money.

The third slavery mechanism operated by the banksters controlling the US is a covert system introduced in 1933 when the Rothschilds and other Talmudic banksters bankrupted the US Corporation and forced the US government to unlawfully and fraudulently enslave the entire US population. See eg: Bankruptcy of The United States -

Congressman Louis T. McFadden. -

US Congress: House Joint Resolution 192 of June 5, 1933 -

Colonel Edward Mandell House Predicts the Creation of the STRAWMAN in the US

Bankruptcy of the United States. -

As a result of the bankruptcy the banksters unlawfully enslaved from birth everyone USan who gets a birth certificate. See eg: An Investigative Report Re the US Strawman UCC/Redemption Process By Barton A. Buhtz -].

Breathing life into such ideas in a world where trade was dominated by the existence of slavery faced public opposition, as all but the most dimwitted should understand. But it's impossible not to observe the following conclusion, to which I'm often led.

Slavery ended because the visionaries who founded our nation had the moral courage to suggest that individual laborers have a right to property, which includes a right to the product of their labor - i.e., wages. That's the moral argument.

[Ron: I disagree  As discussed above, the British banksters decided that as a result of the agricultural and Industrial Revolutions chattel slavery was too expensive and cumbersome and so they decided to control labor by controlling wages. This was to be done by controlling the money and it is!.

Under the free range serf mechanism that replaced chattel slavery "labourers" are only given a portion of the product of their labour while much of it is taken by Capitalist employers and governments. THAT is immoral.].

But beyond that, it is economically more efficient for everyone to be paid wages for his labor and provide for himself, [Ron: More efficient for who? Communal living, caring and sharing is obviously more "efficient" in terms of use of labour and resources than having every individual having to provide everything for self] than to be reared in his youth, supported in his working years, and cared for in his later years by a master who determines what his labor is worth - all of which is done absent the consent of the individual.

[Ron: Being charitable, this statement is, at best, misguided. BUT it smells like bankster bullshit. In our Capitalist world virtually EVERY employed individual is forced to accept whatever his/her MASTER determines what his or her work is worth. On top of that, as mentioned above, the wage slaves' REAL bankster masters TAKE as taxes part of the wages or salary paid for that labour AND THEN the banksters TAKE up to 40% of the total production of society in the form of usury on 97% of the total amout of money paid for wages and everything else in society. Remember that usury amounts to a tax on every aspect of activity in society and so it accumulates. For instance, the employer has to pay compound interest (usury) on all monies borrowed to finance his/her/its business and the payment of wages etc. Then the wage slave must pay compound interest on loans for buying a home, a car etc, and so on.].

That's interesting to me - because the same argument our Founders made against slavery is the same argument that we conservatives now make against socialism.

[Ron: The US and every "Welfare State" is essentially socialist. BUT the biggest, albeit covert, socialist aspect of the US, the UK, EU and similar states is the enormous welfare payments made to corporations and hence to their owners. Apart from direct subsidies and indirect assistance including excessively high and unaudited payments on US Pentagon contracts and similar, the US and many other governments often legislate to allow corporations to avoid payment of taxes and often don't pursue illegal taxation avoidance.

For instance in the US between 67% and 72% percent of corporations had zero tax liabilities after credits and exemptions ... while their workers and employees paid between 25 - 30% in taxes. The rate for the minority of corporations, which paid any tax, was 14%. See eg: How Billionaires Become Billionaires -

The US Internal Revenue Service, (IRS) says billionaire tax evasion amounts to $458 billion dollars in lost public revenues every year - almost a trillion dollars every two years by this conservative estimate. The largest US corporations sheltered over $2.5 trillion dollars in overseas tax havens where they paid no taxes or single digit tax rates. At the same time US corporations received over $14.4 trillion dollars (Bloomberg claimed 12.8 trillion) in public 'crisis' bailout money, split between the US Treasury and the Federal Reserve, mostly from US tax payers, who are overwhelmingly workers, employees and pensioners.

The recipient bankers invested their interest-free or low interest US bailout funds and earned billions in profits, either by investing in "carry trade" in US bonds and mortgage foreclosures on working class households. As a result of fraudulent legal rulings and illegal foreclosures, the bankers evicted 9.3 million families in recent years. Over 20 million individuals lost their properties, often due to illegal or fraudulent debts. A small number of the financial swindlers, including executives from Wall Street's leading banks like Goldman Sachs and J. P. Morgan etc), paid fines - but no one went to prison for the gargantuan fraud that drove millions of Americans into misery.

However the real Talmudic joke is that almost everyone and every thing in our world is ostensibly and fraudulently owned by Jew controlled corporations. The UN and the US, Canadian, Australian and many other governments, together with the IRS and the various government judiciaries and agencies, ARE private corporations. See eg:Corporations Masquerading as Government in Australia & World Wide. -

Also be aware that the 21 trillion USD unaccounted for by the Pentagon and DOD went somewhere but not into the pockets of the free range serfs who are, in terms of divine law, unlawfully forced to pay income taxes. Also be aware that corporations are NOT people, they are mere figments of lawyers' imagination reduced to paper or electronic format. That means that corporate welfare payments are really payments to the wealthy hidden owners of those corporations. See eg: How Interlinked Corporations Rule The World. - And: Corporate Transnational Warlord Pirates Are On the Run- Vanguard - And: The corporate stranglehold on food and agriculture. - And: Corporations Masquerading as Government in Australia & World Wide. See: And: Australia and New Zealand governments illegitimate -].

That's what really makes me wonder.  Is the fact that the Founders owned slaves really the problem?  Or is the Left frustrated by the fact that our Founders' ideas, which unquestionably led to slavery's end, would impede the Left's vision of a government master that cares for us all from cradle to grave, and decides for us how much our labor is worth in the economy, as somehow considered less American than Thomas Jefferson?

To modestly amend Adam Smith's observation, the work done by free men comes cheaper in the end than the work performed by workers in a socialist economy. Whatever work either a slave or a worker in a socialist economy does, beyond what is sufficient to purchase his own maintenance, can be squeezed out of him by violence only, and not by any interest of his own.

Slavery and socialism, in other words, could be considered synonymous.  Liberty is something else entirely.  Our Founders should be continually celebrated for having recognized that there's a difference between the two things and for advocating liberty over slavery.
